Join our panel discussion about the importance of mental health care for reporters covering conflict, trauma and war.
Like Marie Colvin herself, journalists can be reluctant to acknowledge their own struggles while reporting on overwhelming loss and tragedy. Although there is greater understanding of PTSD today, they still have to contend with the competitive pressures of fast-paced newsrooms and demanding editors. Marie’s example has shown that it is important to build resilience as well as reporting skills while training the next generation of foreign correspondents.
Ellen Barry, New York Times mental health correspondent, will chair the panel.
Speakers will be:
Rawya Rageh, senior crisis advisor for Amnesty International and former reporter for AP and Al Jazeera
Anne Barnard, New York Times climate reporter and former Baghdad bureau chief
Dr. Anissa Abi-Dargham, chair of psychiatry at Stony Brook Medicine
The event will feature a recorded message from Richard Engel, NBC News chief foreign correspondent, who is in Ukraine covering the war.
