FAQs

What Programs and Students Do You Support:

Firstly we are not primary educators. We partner with schools to assess the programmatic needs and seek to provide resources to address those needs. We focus on  middle school students who have have high ability and low resources. We support urban schools utilizing novel models to improve student success. Our main recipients have been the Hartford Schools, Covenant Prepratory (boys) and Grace Academy (girls). This year we added Triniity School (elementary )  in an effort to add continuity to our middle school focus. 85 percent of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. In addition to finding the  best programming and resources for students,  we organize mentors, provide career and college exposure for the students we serve.

Jazz on the Vineyard (JOTV) to benefit Student Achievement Through Opportunity (SATO)

www.jazzonthevineyard.org

Jazz on the Vineyard was founded in 2010 by Kenneth Alleyne MD  and  Shaun Biggers-Alleyne MD who love jazz and Martha's Vineyard. They founded Student Achievement through Opportunity (SATO), a nonprofit organization aimed at narrowing the “opportunity gap” for students in Dr. Alleyne’s hometown of Hartford, Conn. JOTV events provide audience members with an intimate music experience while simultaneously supporting underprivileged youth. SATO collaborates with educators, schools, students and parents equally committed to increasing the development of talented young scholars who will realize their potential and be poised to assist and elevate their local communities.

Jazz on the Vineyard events are in its 9th year, and exist through support of the charitable work done in partnership with Beta Iota Boule Foundation. SATO is independently incorporated and  based in Hartford Connecticut. Funds raised through Jazz on the Vineyard 2019 events are a critical part of implementing our programmatic agenda and annual operating budget. Your contribution helps broaden access to opportunities for our youth while building a collective of dedicated and committed individuals.

OUR VISION:

Serving high potential students at the intersection of academic achievement and opportunity
