COURSE DESCRIPTION

This three-day workshop will focus on the outdoor sketch-- a key to understanding light and color. The instructor will open each day with a lecture and demonstration after which students will paint and receive individual critiques of their work. The class will focus on learning to see like an artist, emphasizing the fundamental principals necessary to quickly and accurately capture the beauty of nature when painting outdoors. Among topics covered will be: values, hue, saturation, drawing, edges, design, and paint application. We will also discuss artistic style, and the importance of painting from life as a means to developing one’s own individual voice.

LEVEL
