Event description

Description

Join us for this very special concert, conversation, and book signing with punk icon Jon Langford (The Mekons) and bassist Norbert Putnam, the original house bass player at Fame Studios, who moved onto Nashville, became Elvis Presley's preferred studio bassist, and, later, an in-demand producer. In 2016, Langford and Putnam collaborated on Four Lost Souls, recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with A-list players from Nashville, Muscle Shoals, Chicago, and Langford's own band. Four Lost Souls is pure Americana, not just because of where it was recorded or who played on what track, but because it is beyond the news of the day. It is a travelogue of sorts; it goes to a place where the differences between country, soul, blues, and rock-and-roll are blown aside by the warm languid breezes. The music had no time for such petty details, because in the moment, in that place, was the sound of sweet agreement.

The event will feature live music by Langford and his band and stories by Putnam about his illustrious career. The evening will close with a book signing for Putnam's new memoir, Music Lessons, Volume 1: A Musical Memoir.
