Two-Day Jomon Workshop

Master Potters Ifurai and Genya Murakami

Studio Arts Boulder is hosting master potters from Japan - Ifurai, Genya Murakami, and Ryujiro Oyabu - for a month-long Celebration of Jomon. "Jomon" means "cord pattern" and describes both the pottery and the culture of ancient Japan. This special month-long visit includes a two-day, hands-on workshop taught by Ifurai & Genya at the Boulder Pottery Lab, followed by a traditional Noyaki open-pit firing of workshop pieces.

Learn ancient ceramics techniques of the Jomon era, starting with a coil pot and incorporating elemental symbols to create dramatic forms. Pottery students of all levels, including beginners, are invited to register. Workshop attendees will also participate in the Noyaki firing later in March to finish their pieces using traditional methods.

Saturday, March 2nd & Sunday, March 3rd
12:00pm - 5:00pm each day

Cost: $225 + $30 firing fee

To learn more about the Jomon era, the artists, and their work, visit www.studioartsboulder.org/workshops.

Noyaki firing is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, March 17th (rain date Sunday, March 24th). Preparations for the firing will take place on Saturday, March 16th.

Space is limited!
