Event description
On the occasion of the 72nd World Health Assembly, WHF cordially invites you to this multistakeholder panel discussion.

About this Event

Diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are global epidemics. They are among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly affecting people in low- and middle-income countries. CVD is a leading cause of death and disability in people with diabetes, who are up to three times more likely to have CVD.

The side event will provide an in-depth discussion on how CVD-related premature mortality in people with diabetes can be reduced and the role that Universal Health Coverage (UHC) can play in achieving this goal. Participants will include key experts in diabetes and CVD education and care, policymakers and people living with diabetes and CVD.

Speakers and panellists:

Dr Larry Sperling, Katz Professor in Preventive Cardiology and Director of the Emory Heart Disease Prevention Center

Dr Cherian Varghese, NCD Management Coordinator, World Health Organization
