Event description

Thank you for joining LightHouse in the 48th San Francisco Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24th! We’re so excited you will be there celebrating the intersectionalities of the disabled and LGBTQ+ communities.

LightHouse will be Number 8 in the Parade this year, we will quite literally be leading the charge! Below is some important information about what you’ll need for the day of the Parade, please be sure to read the entire email.

Meeting Time

Please arrive at the Meeting Location between 9:00 and 9:30.

Meeting Location

We are meeting on Steuart Street, between Mission and Howard.

We recommend taking public transit to get to the Assembly Area. The assembly area is easily accessible by MUNI or BART, using the Embarcadero Station. Please note, Embarcadero will be very busy for Pride. We will have multiple wayfinder volunteers to help you find your way.

When you get to Embarcadero, there are a few options:

  • Take the Market & Spear Street (Exit B1) to the street (there is an escalator going up). There will be a wayfinder at street level looking out for people who may be a part of our contingent.
  • Take the Elevator to the street (located near the Muni exit and the Clipper office). There will be a wayfinder at street level.
  • Get to street level. Go to the intersection of Spear and Market (south side of Market Street) in front of the Federal Reserve Bank. There will be wayfinders helping you find our contingent.

To get to the meeting location – head east on Market Street (towards the Ferry Building) and turn right on Steuart Street. Stay on the south side of Market Street and do not cross Steuart. Go two blocks south to be between Mission and Howard.

There will be wayfinders at the corner of Steuart and Market and at Mission and Steuart who can help you find our contingent. We will be on the left side of the block in the G1 section, look for the white LightHouse minivan.

Once there, you will check in and receive your wrist band to the LightHouse community celebration and the Pride tshirt if you signed up in time.

About the Parade

Because we will be so early on the Parade, we will most likely not be hanging out at the start of the parade for very long.

The parade will follow Market Street from our starting place on Steuart Street, and proceed to the end of the Parade at Market and 8th. After the parade, we will march as a group by making a left on 9th Street and enter LightHouse through the back of the building. We will either return through Soma Grand Parking or from 7th and Stevenson. We will do all of this as a group.

  • We will have contingent monitors helping to keep our contingent moving at a desirable speed. If you are given instructions by a contingent monitor, please comply. This will help ensure that we continue moving safely.
  • Alcohol or mind-altering substances cannot be consumed or distributed in the parade.
  • Electioneering for candidates, legislation, or ballot initiatives is prohibited.
  • Nothing may be thrown into the crowd. We have some stickers and candy to hand out, these are to be placed in people’s hands.

Post Parade Celebration: We will make our way back to the LightHouse at 1155 Market Street, 10th floor to celebrate and watch the rest of the parade away from the crowd! You must be registered on Eventbrite in order to enter the LightHouse building.

Grates on Market Street

If you are a service dog user, or blind/vi please note there are a number of grates on Market Street that have exceptionally large holes. Last year the grates claimed a cane, and our service animals had to navigate around them. Below you will find more detailed instructions regarding the grates.

For all grates we’ll be staying left unless otherwise noted. For most instances, there will be large, white circle signs with the street names that will correspond to the street names listed below as the markers. The grates will be west (after) the streets listed below.

  • Spear– middle of the street. Ends at Drumm.
  • Davis/Pine – just past mid-block. 2 sections on block. Ends at Front.
  • Fremont/Front – Middle only
  • Sansome/Sutter – 3 this block. 2 closer to Montgomery/Post.
