Event description

Description

The LightHouse for the Blind is proud to extend an invitation to all of our LGBT community members, their families, friends and allies to join us as we commemorate LGBT heritage, celebrate LGBT culture and raise awareness for the needs of LGBT people with disabilities. Please use the Eventbrite ticket to choose the option that indicates how you would like to be involved, in the PRIDE celebration.

According to San Francisco Pride Executive Director, George Ridgely, Jr., “For 47 years, San Francisco Pride has been part of the fabric of Pride events around the globe that have created a space for LGBTQ people and their allies to gather and express their authentic selves in a supportive and loving environment. Our theme for 2017, a ‘Celebration of Diversity’, is emblematic of what we believe is the strength of our communities, the strength of our movement, the strength of our city, and the strength of our nation.” The LightHouse joins this celebration of diversity with our “BE SEEN” contingent!

The LightHouse contingent is scheduled to walk in the earlier part of the parade. We will not receive our exact start time until closer to the date so stay tuned for our exact meetup location and time. Participants who register on Eventbrite will receive e-mail updates, and will be kept up to date as the events unfold. Only registered participants will be allowed access to 1155 Market Street on the day of the parade, please note you will be required to either show proof on your phone or with a paper ticket.

“BE SEEN” OPTION 1: BLIND OR LOW VISION WALKING IN THE PARADE

If you are blind or have low vision and would like to walk in the SF PRIDE parade with the LightHouse please select this option. Please indicate if you would like to walk independently or if you would like to be paired up with a human guide volunteer on the day of the parade. The first 35 participants to register will receive a free LightHouse BE SEEN PRIDE 2017 t-shirt. This ticket includes access to the LightHouse celebration.

“BE SEEN” OPTION 2: SIGHTED WALKING IN THE PARADE

If you are sighted and would like to walk in the SF PRIDE parade with the LightHouse please select this option. If you wish to purchase a LightHouse BE SEEN PRIDE 2017 t-shirt they will be available for purchase at our Adaptations store while supplies last. This ticket includes access to the LightHouse celebration.

“BE SEEN” OPTION 3: LIGHTHOUSE CELEBRATION

Community members, who are not able to walk us, are welcome to gather at the LightHouse on the 10th floor overlooking the parade route with community. Immediately following the parade, community members, their guests and volunteers will be invited back to the LightHouse for snacks and refreshments to celebrate and escape from the crowds. If you are not walking in the parade you will need to select this ticket option to have access to 1155 Market Street.

“BE SEEN” OPTION 4: VOLUNTEER/HUMAN GUIDE

If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the PRIDE celebration please select this option. You may choose to either participate as a contingent monitor, a human guide or request to remain stationed at the LightHouse. Please note all volunteers will require additional training, so please select this option if you would like to volunteer to receive relevant updates. The first 15 people to sign up as volunteers will receive a free LightHouse BE SEEN PRIDE 2017 t-shirt. ***PLEASE NOTE: We have 15 volunteers so there are no more free t-shirts, but we would still very much appreciate you signing up to be a volunteer or human guide. T-shirts can be purchased at our Adaptations store for $15. This ticket includes access to the LightHouse celebration.

DONATION

If you would like to donate to Sexual Health Services programming all donations will be used for LGBT specific programming.

FAQ’s

ACCESS TO THE LIGHTHOUSE “BE SEEN” CELEBRATION

All community members wishing to access the LightHouse must have an Eventbrite ticket. A volunteer will be stationed at the LightHouse providing audio description of the different contingents as they pass by on Market Street.

IS THE EVENT ACCESSIBLE?

For full details about accessibility, check out PRIDE’s accessibility page. They have a range of services for people with accessibility concerns including a dedicated viewing area for the Parade at their Grandstands. For those who wish to purchase accessible seating at the Grandstands you can purchase those at the following link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/san-francisco-pride-17-grandstand-seating-tickets-34445443248?aff=es2

For Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing attendees, PRIDE provides sign language interpretation at the Pride Main Stage in Civic Center all day Saturday and all day Sunday. ASL interpreters are available at community-run stages and venues by request. Please visit the Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Tent near the Main Stage at Civic Center to request an interpreter.

Arrangements can be made for touch interpreters for our Deaf-blind attendees prior to the event — please contact PRIDE organizers by email prior to June 1.

ARE DOG GUIDES, OR PETS ALLOWED IN THE PARADE?

Yes, pets are allowed at the event, including, of course, service animals assisting people with accessibility needs. Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael has the following advice for dog guide handlers. No two teams are the same and each dog guide handler needs to consider the factors for themselves and make the right decision for their individual partnership. Many dog guide handlers successfully attend and participate in parades and large events. Please take into consideration that there will be large crowds, a lot of noise, and public transportation will be very crowded. Please note only service animals will be allowed into the LightHouse following the parade.

GETTING TO THE ASSEMBLY AREA

We recommend public transportation to get to the assembly area. The assembly area is easily accessible by MUNI or BART, using the Embarcadero Station and the south of Market exits. Driving anywhere near the Parade Assembly area or Celebration Site is extremely difficult. Parking is not permitted in the assembly area and will be restricted elsewhere. There will likely be a group making it’s way to the start of the parade route from the LightHouse so please register to stay up to date as events unfold!

We will not receive our exact start time until closer to the date so stay tuned for our exact meetup location and time. Participants who register on Eventbrite will receive e-mail updates, and will be kept up to date.

WHERE CAN I FIND PARKING?

San Francisco Pride partners with Parking Panda to assist with parking solutions for those who must drive to the event. Public transportation is HIGHLY recommended.

HOW DO I VOLUNTEER WITH LIGHTHOUSE FOR SF PRIDE?

Please register for an Eventbrite ticket, as a volunteer. You will be contacted with more information regarding a volunteer training prior to the parade.

ACCESSIBILITY WAITING AREA

The LightHouse van will be available for those who cannot stand for long periods of time prior to the start of the parade. Additional, accessibility seating will be provided in front of 77 Beale Street. As our contingent marches by, you can make your way to Market Street and join in.

PORTABLE TOILETS

Portable toilets are located at the northern end of each block throughout the Assembly Area. Additional portable toilets are located at the Command Center at 77 Beale Street. Please do not use portable toilets as changing rooms. Staff and Volunteers should be given priority to the front of the line to allow them to get back to work quickly.

PARADE ROUTE

The parade will kick off at 10:30 AM sharp with the Dykes on Bikes/Women’s Motorcycle Contingent. The rest of the Parade will follow west on Market Street, from Spear and Beale Streets, and proceed to the end of the Parade, at Market and 8th. The Parade will turn south (left) on 8th Street.

PARADE DISPERSAL

The Parade ends on Market Street at the intersection of 8th Street. Those marching in the LightHouse contingent will be invited to return back to the LightHouse for a community celebration until the completion of the parade. Please note only participants with Eventbrite tickets will be allowed into the LightHouse on the day of the parade.

HOW CAN I CONTACT THE ORGANIZER?
