Mayor Lou La Monte
Lou La Monte was elected to the City Council in April 2010 and re-elected to a second term in April 2014. His term will expire in November 2018. He served as Mayor from August 2012 to June 2013, and again beginning July 2016.Mayor La Monte previously served as a Public Works Commissioner and, for eight years, he was president of the Big Rock Mesa Property Owners Association, one of the largest homeowners associations in Malibu.Since 2013, Mayor La Monte has served as a presidential appointment to the League of California Cities' Housing, Community and Economic Development Policy Committee. In May 2016, Mayor La Monte was elected President of the California Contract Cities Association, a position he will hold for one year. Also in May 2016, on a recommendation from the President of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors appointed Mayor La Monte as a member of the Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs for a term expiring January 1, 2017.In his professional life, Mayor La Monte is a director and producer. He has produced and directed over 3,000 commercials in more than 40 countries for major national and international clients. He has also achieved success in Emmy winning long form dramatic projects and Award winning children's programming. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Rabbi Judith HaLevy:
Rabbi Judith HaLevy is the Rabbi of the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue. She holds advanced degrees in International Relations from both Rutgers University and Columbia University, and spent her early years in international education in Mexico City and Tel Aviv. Returning to New Mexico in 1976, she continued her work in the field of bilingual education and cultural diversity. She spent ten years as the director of the Taos Arts Association, and in that capacity served on the Board of the National Endowment for the Arts from 1988 to 1992. She began her Rabbinic studies at that time, and was ordained in 1992. Her student pulpit was in Santa Fe, New Mexico, her home for more than a decade. She came to Los Angeles to co-found Metivta, a Center for Jewish Spirituality, and Sarah’s Tent, a community based on Judaism and creativity. In 1996 the Rabbi became the spiritual leader of MJC&S. Rabbi HaLevy has been a member of the executive committee of the Board of Rabbis of Southern California since 2002 and is immediate past president, after previously serving as president from 2011 to 2013. She is a senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem, having completed three years of intensive study in the Rabbinic Leadership program in 2010. She is known throughout the Los Angeles area as a gifted teacher and speaker.
Susan Stiffelman is a licensed Marriage, Family and Child therapist, a credentialed teacher, an educational therapist and a highly respected public speaker. Her parenting approach focuses on helping parents build deep connection with their children, managing their reactions (regardless of how their kids are behaving) so that they can be the calm Captain of the ship they naturally cooperate with, confide in, and respect.Susan embodies a unique blend of professional therapist, teacher, beloved auntie and down to earth mom. Her first book, Parenting Without Power Struggles is based on her work with thousands of parents and children, from celebrities to everyday moms and pops. Her newest book, Parenting With Presence guides readers through a variety of insights and exercises to help them use the challenges of parenting to grow and transform.
