Event description

Description

Literary research, teaching and learning are evolving in exciting new ways. Scholars are stepping beyond the Western canon to analyze diverse and lesser-known voices. Faculty are tapping multiple formats, like audio and video, to create immersive experiences for their students.

Join Echo Brown – performer, author and the auditorium speaker at ALA Midwinter – for an intimate conversation about the changing tides of literature and literary studies. Brown will share how this trend influenced the writing of her first book, Black Girl Unlimited: The Remarkable Story of a Teenage Wizard (published by Macmillan in January 2020).

Brown’s talk will lead into a demo of ProQuest One Literature, a brand-new, discipline-specific resource from ProQuest. Developed in collaboration with faculty, scholars and librarians, ProQuest One Literature is much more than the world’s largest collection of primary texts. It includes rare and hard-to-find works from Black and world writers for unprecedented perspectives. And it’s rich with accompanying criticism, videos, dissertations, ebooks, and curated author and movement pages. See firsthand how primary texts are brought to life through layers of multi-media and varied sources that awaken discoveries and challenge assumptions.

The first 40 attendees to visit the ProQuest booth following this session will receive an autographed copy of Brown's book!

Registration is required. We look forward to seeing you there!
