Event description

This registration page is only for workshops.

20 October (Friday)

10.30am-12.30pm | RM100 (max. 12 participants)
Writing Yourself Into Your Essays by Lim Soon Heng
Location: Ballroom, Amari Johor Bahru

More often than not, students think that good writing is about providing the 'correct' answer. The truth is that with writing, evaluators and readers are keener on learning about the way an answer is constructed, put together; about discovering who you, the writer, are, and the space the writer inhabits.

Learn to write using your own verbal bricks and mortar, mixing your own cement – so as to reveal the kind of home you're inviting your reader into.

21 October (Saturday)

2.00pm-4.00pm |RM20
Publishing A Zine by Farel Omar

A zine can be described as self-published work that is circulated within small communities. It can also be defined as a form of isolated writing by individuals or certain groups of people, but ultimately is a tool with endless possibilities and opportunities for ideas to flourish.

This workshop will explore the joy of zine making, and will introduce different types of zines that people can create to promote hobbies, interests, passions and even businesses. Farel will also demonstrate various techniques of zine making and ways of distributing them to the public at large.

4.00pm-6.00pm | RM100 (includes a copy of "A Writer's Journey")
Discover the Writer in You by Gina Yap

You’ve been thinking about writing. It could be a novel, a compilation of short stories, a collection of poems, a book or a screenplay – you have stories to tell and you’ve been itching to write. But how/where do you begin? How do you write your stories well?

In this session, you’ll discover:

• What makes a good memorable story
• What makes a great writer
• Understanding your writer-self
• The different types of writing processes
• Practical ways to tackle writing challenges
• What it takes to write a book

All these and more as Gina shares her writing journey with you!

22 October (Sunday)

Your first step to unlocking your full potential is one filled with youthful exuberance and inexperience. The next move forward sets an important foundation for life. How do you make the right choice? Will your chosen faculty of studies be a limiting factor or a stepping stone?

The career pathway of a professional faculty of studies is a great safety net, but sometimes it’s worthwhile to explore the road less travelled. After Hours 1.0: Route Awakening welcomes students of all levels, parents, or anyone itching to find out more about taking leaps of faith for a fireside chat with some faces behind familiar names that have put Johor Bahru on the map.

Learn the tricks of the trade from critically-acclaimed British director of photography and camera operator Howard J. Smith, known for his camera work on The Matrix, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Friends.
