Description

John Vinci is one of Chicago’s most acclaimed architects and preservationists. Long awaited by scholars as well as by architecture aficionados, John Vinci: Life and Landmarks is the first authoritative survey of his life and work, scheduled for release this fall. The book provides an intimate look at an architect whose portfolio spans half a century and includes the restoration of some of the city’s most important historic structures as well as numerous award-winning original projects. Vinci’s pioneering restoration projects include Frank Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio, Sullivan’s Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room, the CarsonPirie Scott Building, and Root’s Monadnock Building. His original design work includes notable buildings such as the Arts Club of Chicago, numerous award-winning residences, and more than fifty major exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago and other museums.

Author Robert Sharoff, award-winning writer and editor for The New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and Chicago magazine interviews John Vinci at Unity Temple. Photographer William Zbaren’s images of Vinci’s works illustrate their discussion.

John Vinci: Life and Landmarks will be available for purchase at the event. A book signing will follow the evening’s program.
