Event description

Description

John R. Miller began playing and writing music while growing up in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, an area along the Potomac River where the mountains meet Interstate 81.

John is a co-founding member and songwriter for The Fox Hunt and Prison Book Club, he has since performed his songs across the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK, Japan, and Europe. He has made several appearances on NPR’s Mountain Stage with Larry Groce, has been a featured songwriter and performer on the Travelin' Appalachians Revue, and his song “Coming Down” was performed by Kentucky artist Tyler Childers on his album Live at Red Barn I & II. With his band the Engine Lights, the music widens into a unique cross-section of folk, country blues, and rock n roll, featuring driving fiddle, close harmonies, wily guitar picking, and a deep-pocket rhythm section. Their most recent full-length effort, The Trouble You Follow, was released in 2018 via Lexington, KY’s Emperor Records.

Christopher Michael Rogers will be opening the night. Chris is a blooming songwriter from Crider, KY and is cutting his teeth on the pain of love lost and the direction found. He has been writing songs since 1999 and has discovered a new fervor for putting words to paper and music. His freshman album, due out in early 2020, conveys the love he holds for a woman dear to him, the loss of her companionship and the aftermath of life decisions gone wrong.

His early impressions from Chris Knight, Charlie Robison, Robert Earl Keen and Steve Earle to more recent influences of Jason Isbell, B.J. Barham, Shane Smith and Cody Canada are reasons he continues to grow his sound to a genre-less menagerie of soul searching, eye watering tunes meant for the ears and heart.

Join us on Saturday, February 15th for a night of music the way it was meant to be enjoyed. // BYOB // DOORS OPEN at 6:30.
