 Register Here to Celebrate the New John Nicholas Ridge Trail and Upgrades on the Skyline Ridge Trail 

Date: Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Sanborn County Park near Saratoga, in Santa Clara

9:00 AM: Arrive at parking sites to catch shuttle to event locations (parking locations will be sent to all registrants prior to event)*

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Dedication ceremony, ribbon cutting and refreshments

11:00 AM: Trail Outings

  • Short guided hikes on the new John Nicholas Trail
    - 1/2 hour round-trip walk to the new vista point
    -  1 hour round-trip hike past the vista point to the "Lombard St." switchbacks and 40-foot tall tafoni sandstone outcrop
     
  • 7-mile hike from the trailhead to Lake Ranch and back (plan for a 2.5 to 3 hour round-trip)
     
  • Horseback rides
    - along John Nicholas to Lake Ranch (7 miles round-trip)
    - north along Skyline Ridge Trail to Saratoga Gap (12-mile round-trip)
     
  • Mountain bike rides - so many options!
    - short downhill return to main Sanborn park entrance parking site
    - downhill to Lake Ranch, then out to John Nicholas Connector to Black Road trailhead and climb back to Sunnyvale Mountain for another descent!
    - Skyline Ridge Trail north to Saratoga Gap and descend Hwy 9 to Sanborn Road and the park's main entrance
    - continue north on Skyline Ridge Trail thru Saratoga Gap & Long Ridge Open Space Preserve to Grizzly Flat Trail in Upper Stevens Creek, descend to Stevens Canyon Trail, descend to Stevens Canyon Road, climb Redwood Gulch Road back to Hwy 9, descend the highway to Sanborn Road and return to Sanborn Park


Please bring snacks or lunch and a water bottle if you plan on hiking or riding. We will provide maps. 

*Note: The ceremonies take place at Sunnyvale Mountain, 6 miles south of the Saratoga Gap intersection of Skyline Blvd. & Hwy 9. No parking is available at the Sunnyvale Mountain site – we will email parking location details to all registrants prior to the event. We strongly urge participants to carpool so we can accommodate everyone who wants to attend. 

Registration cutoff is 250 due to parking restraints. Registration deadline is Thursday, March 26.

This event is rain or shine (severe weather cancels, check Ridge Trail website for info on Friday, March 27).
