Come down to M5 this Friday for a presentation on case studies that outline the significant consequences of ignoring seemingly insignificant design factors in complex systems engineering. The goal of this investigation is to broaden the horizons of students who are working on or will soon work on designing highly involved systems.  The case studies will highlight on how students must be able to pick out and concentrate on the subtle but important design elements that are crucial to the success of their project endeavors.

Fascinated by electronics since he was a child, John attended vocational school for electrical systems and went on to graduate from UMass in 1981 with a double major in EE and Physics. He then received his Masters in EE at California Institute of Technology and Masters in Physics at UMass. Since then, he’s held a variety of ECE-related positions for companies including AT&T, Raytheon, MITRE, and Philips on projects involving communications, radar systems, medical imaging, large-scale web development, and national reconnaissance systems. He is a licensed electrician and enjoys hobbies such as motorcycling and skydiving.
