Oakland-based jazz guitarist John Klopotowski and his longtime musical partner, pianist Rave Tesar, celebrate the release of their new CD, Dedication.
John and Rave have been performing together since 1975, when they met when they were both growing up in Northern New Jersey. During that time period they performed regularly and appeared as featured artists on the Monday Guitar Night program at Gulliver's Jazz Club in West Paterson. John also performed at that time with jazz trumpeter Thad Jones and then went on to work with tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh in New York, in addition to leading his own groups. Rave was very busy in jazz groups with his brother Bill on drums, and also went on to become keyboardist and musical director for the band Renaissance, a gig that is ongoing.
John and Rave reunited in 2015 and have been rehearsing and recording since then. The CD Project 59 was released in 2016 and featured jazz quartet and quintet performances with John on guitar and Rave at the piano, and the new CD with Rave and Bill Tesar will be available for sale at the performance.
The Berkeley performance will present an intimate duet setting that promises both swinging jazz and quiet music for contemplation.
