Event description

Description

Thursday, Nov. 2nd. restaurateurs and caterers honor the legacy of John Dabney, a renowned Richmond caterer of the 19th century, in food and story with culinary historian Michael Twitty, author of The Cooking Gene, Michael Hall of Spoonbread Bistro, Velma Johnson of Mama J's, Samantha Paul of Red Salt and others. Filmmakers Field Studio will premiere a documentary about Dabney. We'll gather at Dabney's own church, First African Baptist and learn about its important history from downtown Richmond to Northside. Also this year, we'll offer a ticket that includes a copy of Maureen Egan's and Susan Winiecki's new book Richmond's Culinary History: Seeds of Change, which includes a chapter about Dabney, of course. There will be an opportunity for a book-signing of Twitty's book as well. Part of Fire, Flour & Fork, a gathering for the food curious.

Tickets on sale August 1st 10 a.m.
