John Cariani's Almost Maine
Fri, April 7, 2017, 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM CDT
Galena Community Project Theatre is proud to present John Cariani's Almost Maine as it's premiere show of it's opening season.
“Almost, Maine is a series of nine amiably absurdist vignettes about love, with a touch of good-natured magic realism…witty, romantic, unsentimental. A beautifully structured play, with nifty surprise endings (most but not all of them happy).” —The New York Times.
Almost Maine premiered at the Portland Stage Company in Portland, Maine in 2004 where it broke box office records and garnered critical acclaim.
Almost, Maine opened Off-Broadway at the Daryl Roth Theatre on January 12, 2006 and closed February 12, 2006. It is now the most produced play in North American High Schools, recently supplanting Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The Story: On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised, Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend- almost- in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
