Description

The music of John Cage comes to the Lab in Carmel!

John Cage's Sonatas and Interludes (1946-48) for prepared piano converts a grand piano into a one-player percussion ensemble by inserting forty-five everyday objects — erasers, screws, bolts, bits of plastic — between the piano's strings according to the composer's precisely specified measurements, resulting in a vivid sonic universe of gongs, bells, and drums.

Pianist Jeff Treviño, Assistant Professor of Music at CSU Monterey Bay, will perform this sixteen-movement, concert-length work with no intermission. More about Jeff below.

Friday, January 26 at the Lab, located in the Barnyard shopping center in Carmel, Suite G-23, above Carmel Valley Roasters.

$25 tickets, $15 for students. To receive student discount, click on Tickets, then click Enter Promotional Code. Then enter the code.

Doors at 7, performance at 7:30 pm. The piece is approximately 1 hour, with no break.
