JOE ROBINSON - Winner of Guitar Player Magazine's "Best New Talent" Poll

New York, NY
Having quickly entrenched himself as Australia's newest music phenomenon (and recently voted "Best New Talent" by the readers of Guitar Player magazine), Joe Robinson is truly a virtuoso musician. His jaw-dropping instrumental stylings have garnered the attention of many guitar masters, including Les Paul, Steve Vai, Brad Paisley, Tommy Emmanuel, Brent Mason, Lee Ritenour, Steve Cropper, and Dweezil Zappa. At his young age, he has already headlined in major metropolitan centers all over the globe, including shows in London, New York, Helsinki, Budapest, Sydney, Berlin, Milan, Vienna, Bangkok, Rome, and Amsterdam. As an award-winning and prolific composer, fearless and energetic performer, and humble, likeable individual, Robinson seems destined for greatness.
If Robinson, the chipper 21-year-old from backwoods Temagog, New South Wales, Australia, were two or three times his age, his sheer six-string ability and compositional insight would be no less astonishing. That fact was underscored when he won TV's Australia's Got Talent in 2008 and the Australian National Songwriting Competition at the tender age of 13. Simply put, Robinson plays guitar like Ali boxed, like Einstein knew theoretical physics, and like Hitchcock made movies, winning him an enthusiastic worldwide following.
But with his new album, Let Me Introduce You (2012), Robinson has made a daring quantum leap. The gifted young virtuoso has redefined himself as a budding pop-world visionary, deftly walking a tightrope between the instrumental music that has put him in the spotlight, and a unique fusion of vocally-based rock, blues, jazz, country, and R&B that's entirely his own. "Let Me Introduce You was a dive into the deep end for me," he confides. "It would have been easy to make another instrumental album, but I crave being inspired. My goal was to keep my musical DNA as a thread through the whole album while evolving my electric guitar playing, songwriting, and singing. The truth is, music is something you do because you can't stand not doing it. Like Frank Zappa and Miles Davis, I'm interested in continuously reinventing myself and seeking new directions. Let Me Introduce You sets me on a course that I'm thrilled to keep exploring."
The music world is excited for Robinson to keep exploring too. As The Washington Post declared, "It's not hard to imagine him rivaling the popularity of, say, John Mayer in coming years."
