Event description

Description

Conversation with Joe King, led by Tony Souza.

Tony Souza spent his career as a historic preservationist. Joe King is a local architect and historian. With Christopher Domin, he is co-author of the book “Paul Rudolph: The Florida Houses.” He is curator of the exhibit “J West Architect: Sixty Years of Sarasota Design,” on display at the Sarasota County Historical Exhibits and Education Center starting September 12.

A second generation native of Manatee County, Joe is interested in the ways that the natural, built, and cultural environments of our region interact and change over time. Joe is the developer of River Forest, an innovative neighborhood that received the Outstanding Private Development Award from the Florida Planning and Zoning Association.

Building on his long-term interest in regional modern architecture, Joe served as the contractor for the Paul Rudolph-designed Walker Guest House Replica, an educational and experiential project of the Sarasota Architectural Foundation that was installed at the Ringling Museum from 2015 to 2017.
