Job the Now Testament is a musical that reflects on the question WHY when most people have an opinion. When there is no answer we simply say: “It’s part of God’s plan.” But is it? How could a just God have a plan that requires death and destruction? It is here inside this question where our story begins. Songs like “What’s the good news?” reveal how society is looking for the truth about humanity and divinity. It reveals how we fill our lives up with stuff in order to make us feel better but in reality, we are just avoiding the deeper question to the source of our pain.

Churches have told the story of Job countless times before, but an event at St. Philip Catholic Church, Franklin, will bring fresh perspective to that book of the Bible.

St. Philip will present a musical production of John Angotti’s play, “Job: The Now Testament,” on Wednesday, March 27 at 7pm.

The play tells the story of Aaron, who is described as a faithful man dealing with a devastating diagnosis. Reeling from the news and about to undergo treatment, Aaron meets a friend who tells him the story of Job, a biblical figure who, like Aaron, was a good person dealing with bad things happening to him.

In hearing the story, Aaron is transported to the book of Job, with his friends becoming other figures in Job’s life. What he learns from the experience could help him with his own.

Angotti, the Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Philip, wrote the play after dealing with a series of personal tragedies himself.
