JKUAT TAITA CAMPUS(Coders4Africa / ComputerAid International) MOBILE BOOT CAMP

“He who cherishes a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in his heart, will one day realize it. The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.James Allen

As many would have desired to join a university closer to the city or rather the by now made universities, so lies the biddings in many who go to JKUAT Taita Campus (Taita Taveta University College). It could have been from being acquainted with the opportunities that come along with the already gained niche among employees or rather the city life. TTUC embraces a group of passionate students who are ready to conquer and soar high not only in academics but also in solution development. The great distance away from a typically hyper city life has dealt the student population a gamble to shape their academic pursuit. Opportunities that lie in the campus in terms of acquaintance with the real world are scanty may due to its young age, thus making any arising opportunity to link with the real world a highly welcomed invitee to stay.

Coders 4 Africa is one of the latest guest entries to partner with us in bringing the real world. With a great population of students taking Information Technology and Computer Science courses we could not have arrived at a better partner than this. In their greeting note in their website ” Welcome to Coders4Africa the original source that provides African programmers and developers a gateway to free high quality training and certification in the main technologies and platforms that currently dominate the software development industry.”, it depicts all what a team of enthusiastic developers would hunger. The current learning curriculum used within the campus has no window open to the current development world of the likes of android, J2Me etc. An initiative by the student’s body to collectively open a window to the same remains our greatest leverage point. Backed by the universities administration lead by a dedicated and endearing campus principal Pro. Hamadi Boga, application development wings have begun to grow among the students. The campus having held its 1st Tech expo on 24th March 2012 and another scheduled for September 2012 with software solutions being a key note, Coders 4 Africa are just on time.

Much appreciation goes to Kristen Houlton (Computer Aid) for the relentless effort and co- ordination to see the boot camp in Taita Campus.

Computer Aid International is a UK registered charity that aims to reduce poverty through practical ICT solutions.

We provide only the highest quality, professionally refurbished computers and laptops for reuse in education, health, agriculture and not-for-profit organisations in developing countries.

At our London workshop we data-wipe, test and professionally refurbish donated computers, monitors and laptops from UK organisations and individuals.

In addition to the provision of PCs, Computer Aid works on numerous initiatives designed to further increase access to ICT among poor and disadvantaged communities including the provision of e-training programmes for nurses and low cost software for partially sighted individuals.
