The Board of Directors of The John J. Wright Educational and Cultural Center Museum -

Invite the public to join them Thursday, September 7, 2017 for the Seventh Anniversary Celebration and Grand Exhibition Opening Titled, "Our Founding Fathers: Citizens of African Descent. Pioneers. Visionaries. Entrepreneurs." (click here to view event promotional video)

Historically, African Americans have been excluded in society through racial segregation based on prevailing laws and customs. The exhibit presents a history of some pioneers in the African American community whose contributions advanced its citizens and provided a foundation for access and opportunities for future generations to pursue careers in fields such as education, politics, sports, religion and entrepreneurship. Our Founding Fathers represent the men of Spotsylvania County, Virginia who not only broke established barriers but did so by using their passion, from athletics to politics. The opening exhibition will explore the history of education, culture, and civic life of these leaders of African descent, the obstacles they overcame; and celebrate the changes they inspired as citizens during the Jim Crow Era. As in each exhibition, a collection of books, educational handouts and hands-on children station are included to promote literacy.

This historical-honorary event begins promptly at 5:00 pm with doors opening early. The evening includes a special guest speaker, this year’s T.O.R.C.H and Young Blaze Recipients, performing artists, memorable photo opportunities, door prizes, a light reception and the chance to contribute much needed resources to this remarkable community driven institution.

Don't miss this engaging exhibit that highlights and explores the contributions of Our Forefathers; Citizens of African Descent of Spotsylvania Virginia in changing the landscape of America. The event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is suggested.
