Event description

Description

Are you "stuck on high alert" or in "fight or flight" mode? You might be in what is known as a sympathetic dominant state. This is a theme for modern humans, and not just a few of us…chronic sympathetic nervous system excess is the pandemic of our time, affecting and complicating all of our issues. Nationally known Michigan herbalist Jim McDonald will discuss how to tell when you're "stuck in sympathetic," how to break the pattern in acute and chronic situations, and how to differentiate between herbs that restore, herbs that relax, herbs that build resilience, and (if needed) herbs that chill you the hell out.

Michigan herbalist Jim McDonald blends a folk and indigenous perspective with his deep personal study of 19th Century herbalism. Jim consults and teaches about “what makes sense” and he includes lots of stories, humor, examples, and analogies to make the concepts clear and relatable. His gregarious and down-to-earth teaching style has made him popular at herb conferences throughout North America. He loves to answer questions, so bring some along!

Jim says: "I feel the most important offering I can make to the herbs that have taught me so much is for me to teach others to make relationship with the plants that grow around them...It is my deepest passion to encourage people to understand the herbs that they share this land with, and to integrate that relationship into every aspect of their lives. That connection, I believe, is what makes for a good herbalist."
