2017 HIGHLIGHTS

LEARNING
:
L
ively and interactive education topics that expanded your mind on various topics of Judaism and Israel. Speakers at our session are local and regional experts on their topics, and new this year is a visitor from Israel who will speak on Jews and Christians in Israel. And don’t worry, there will be time for all of your questions. The festival’s Mitzvah Alley focus will highlight various social service agencies in our region making a positive impact on our community. You will even have a chance to work on a small service project at the event.

Main stage ENTERTAINMENT showcases great music and dance, featuring folk, rock and roll, klezmer, Israeli, Broadway music of Jewish songwriters and performers, and even Israeli folk dancing. INDYKLEZ headlines the outdoor stage with classic tunes from the Eastern European klezmer tradition with a few hits of Israeli folk melodies. The Dayton Jewish Chorale will delight audiences with their melodic voices and beautiful harmonies. The Miami Valley Music Men bring a perfect barbershop-style blend while Tim Pritchard & the Boxcar Suite will rock out with songs by Jewish songwriters. To spice up the stage, the Shimmy Cats dance troupe will spotlight ethnic dance of the Middle East. Additional local performers include Jacob McGlaun, Ryan Vallo, and Angele Price.

What is a Festival without delicious FOOD! El Meson, Pasha Grill, Smokin’ Bar-B-Que, and Bernstein’s Catering will have your taste buds singing with Jewish foods in the style of their own menus, including falafel, brisket, hummus, Jewish deli, and some vegetarian twists on authentic cuisine. The Temple Bakery supplies the challah, rugelah, honey cake, hamantaschen, and mandel bread. But make your bakery purchases early before they sell out! Looking for a cold sweet treat? Graeter’s Ice Cream completes the meal with one of their delicious (kosher) flavors!

Cheers! What could be better…for adults…than a cold kosher craft BEER on a hot afternoon!? Patrons have the opportunity to sample hand-selected brews direct from Shmaltz Brewing Company, including He’Brew, Madtree, and Ace. For non-drinkers, an assortment of Dr. Brown’s sodas, a favorite in Jewish delicatessens, are on hand, in addition to water and soft drinks.

KIDS AND FAMILIES will certainly enjoy a hands-on experience at our Israeli-themed petting zoo. Camels, llamas, and goats – all for you and your little ones to enjoy. Kids of all ages will also have a chance to climb the (inflatable) Mt. Masada, and flaunt their creativity with other crafts and activities.

THE OPEN-AIR SHUK (market) is full of local artisans and entrepreneurs, as well as special items direct from Israel, with Jewish and Israeli arts and crafts for purchase. Past vendors have included jewelry, bags, wooden wares, pottery, cosmetics, children’s toys, and artwork. (Have something to sell at the event? Register as a vendor online.)
