Event description

Description

Join the Australian Institute of Energy Perth to hear about the insights and recommendations from the Final Report of the Inquiry into Microgrids and Associated Technologies in WA - “Taking Charge: Western Australia’s Transition to a distributed energy future”.

The Chair of the Economics and Industry Standing Committee leading the inquiry, Ms Jessica Shaw MLA, will present an overview of the final report followed by audience Q&A.

Commencing in February 2018 and including public consultation and extensive research, the Final Report is to be tabled in the Western Australian Parliament on 20 February 2020. The goals of the inquiry were to examine the potential for Microgrids to contribute to an affordable, secure, reliable and sustainable energy supply, to maximise economic and employment opportunities, and to understand key barriers and initiatives to facilitate development. The final report of the Committee follows their interim report detailing initial findings, “Implications of a Distributed Energy Future”, tabled in Parliament in April 2019.

Be there with those in the industry to hear about the results and participate in the Q&A of AIE Perth’s inaugural event of 2020, which promises to be a year of WA energy policy transformation.

Question and answer will be led by the 2018 Western Australian Energy Professional of the year Matthew Bowen of Jackson McDonald.

Jessica Shaw is the WA Labor Member for Swan Hills in the WA Legislative Assembly and chairs the parliament’s Economics and Industry Standing Committee.

Before entering parliament, Jessica was a commercial executive in the energy industry for over a decade, and enjoyed a prior career in foreign affairs as the Political and Economic Attaché to the British High Commission and adviser to the Senate Foreign Affairs Defence and Trade Committee.

She has four degrees, including a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge.
