Jeffrey Montes - Architecture Beyond Earth : Humans, Robots, and Space
Event Information
About this Event
Award-winning Space architect Jeffrey Montes presents his portfolio of designs for architecture beyond Earth. Through his work, Jeffrey makes a case for an architecture of first principles driven in equal parts by structural, spatial, and construction sensibilities.
As defined by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, “Space Architecture is the theory and practice of designing and building inhabited environments for use in space.” Brooklyn-based Space architect Jeffrey Montes shares some of his award-winning work including habitats that utilize water ice as a light-transmitting shield for cosmic radiation and Marsha, a novel vertical habitat attuned to the structural stresses, construction constraints and psychological pressures unique to a Mars mission. In May 2019, Jeffrey and his team at AI SpaceFactory won the finale of NASA's 3D Printed Habitat Challenge with a 1:3 scale prototype of Marsha that achieved 91.5% construction autonomy.
We hope you can join us for a night of thought provoking ideas, conversation, wine and cheese.
