JEFF COFFIN • THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF SOUND

Jeff Coffin - saxes, winds

Ra Kalam Bob Moses - drums, cymbals, percussion

Jon Cowherd - piano

John D’earth - trumpet

Jon Estes - upright bass

Nothing about this music seeks to impress - it aims instead to connect.

This ensemble brings together five deeply rooted legendary voices in modern improvised music. 3x Grammy winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band/Bela Fleck & the Flecktones), drummer Rakalam Bob Moses (Pat Metheny/Jaco Pastorius/Roland Kirk), pianist Jon Cowherd (Brian Blade Fellowship/Joni Mitchell/Iggy Pop), trumpeter John D’earth (Bruce Hornsby/Buddy Rich/Emily Remler/DMB), and bassist John Estes (Joss Stone/Bela Fleck/John Paul White). Each carries literal decades of exploration, craft, listening, and a shared commitment to curiosity.

Their musical leanings bend toward the earth - unhurried, spacious, transparent, and full of human breath. Coffin’s searching lines, Moses’ painterly sense of rhythm, Cowherd’s lyrical touch, D’earth’s warm, unforced presence, and Estes’ grounded pulse, create a collective feeling that is both lived-in and wide-open.

Simply said, these musicians share the belief that music can still surprise.
