EVENT DESCRIPTION

Learn about research advances, participate in discussions with experts, and meet others living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Educational sessions will be focused on T1D care and management, and will be geared for different audiences.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

Brynn E. Marks, MD, MSHPEd, is an attending physician with the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes and the Director of Technology of the Diabetes Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS (pick two sessions):

The educational program and conversations will be geared towards an adult audience. *Childcare is not available*

  1. Meditation & T1D: Bringing Wisdom to Life with Diabetes: In this session, facilitators from the DiabetesSangha will guide an introductory meditation practice, discuss strategies for bringing meditation into everyday life, and share some of their own journeys bringing a meditative mind to Diabetes care..
  2. The Taboos of T1D: Do you have questions that you are afraid or hesitant to ask your endocrinologist or physician....then this is the breakout session for you and/or your child with T1D! We're getting getting into those T1D after dark topics, please note this sessions is for mature audiences.
  3. T1D On the Move: While it can be challenging, exercising with diabetes does not need to be a Herculean task! Featuring a panel of diabetic athletes who have been through it all, learn all the ins and outs of managing diabetes with sports and exercise. Every individual is different, so come prepared with any questions you may have regarding basal rate adjustments, preventing lows, and monitoring your blood sugar while on the go!
  4. Type One and a Million Questions: If you are a parent or a caregiver, have a newly diagnosed child or entering into a new stage of your T1D parenting journey, this session is a great opportunity to get your questions answered. This breakout session will have a panel of experts specializing in diabetes technology, mental health, pediatric endocrinology, as well as a caregiver just like you!

Please note that our event is in the front of the Sykes Student Union building on the 1st floor and the entry doors from the parking lot will lead you to the back of building on the ground floor. You will need to make your way down the straight hallway to the steps or elevators to get up one more floor, to the 1st floor.
