Event Details

Come join us for another JBU technical session!

This one will be a mixed talk on chillers, chiller plant design/layout, and chiller plant control strategies.  Given this combination, this session should be of interest to Consulting Engineers, Mechanical Contractors, as well as End Users who operate and manage central utility plants.

During the session, we will touch on the following areas.

  • o   Overview of the fundamental workings of a typical water cooled centrifugal chiller
  • o   What factors impact the real time efficiency of a chiller as it operates?
  • o   What are the best ways to save energy in a chiller plant?
  • o   In depth look at optimizing ‘lift’ to save energy (and/or maximize capacity) of your chillers
  • o   Significant Innovations in the chiller industry that have led to sizeable efficiency gains in the past several years (look at VFDs, magnetic bearings, falling film evaporators, high efficiency heat exchanger tubes, etc.)
  • o   Case example challenging traditional ‘free cooling’ philosophies
  • o   Ideal applications of Heat Recovery Chillers
  • o   What solutions are currently available in the market place to help operate and sequence chiller plants in the most efficient way?
  • o   Questions & Open Discussion

Our presenter for this session will be your truly..  Anthony Tomasi is a Senior Sales Engineer with Johnson Barrow Oregon, serving the local Oregon market.  He has over 15 years of experience in the HVAC industry, the majority of which was spent as an Account Executive for York International / Johnson Controls Inc.  During those years, his primary role has been supporting MEP Consulting Engineering firms in designing mechanical systems for new construction as well as retrofit applications, much of which has been focused specifically on central chiller plants.  Formal education includes a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University (2001) and an MBA from Boston College (2011).

The session will be followed by a social hour filled with tacos, beverages, and plenty of good networking and discussion as usual.

Space is limited as always, so please RSVP early and get yourself a seat..  We look forward to seeing you here!

NOTE: If you've been to our place before, you'll know that parking can be tight in our area.  Please leave a little time to find a spot in one of the nearby garages or surface lots if you're driving, or better yet, take the MAX (we're very close to the Providence Place stop).
