Biographies

Janice M. Beard a.k.a. Jazzi Jan is a local Jazz vocalist, born and reared in Peoria, Illinois, claims the Bay Area is as her home since residing here for over 40 years. As a young adult she has performed in many local night spots singing R&B. Reared under a gospel music influence, Jan started singing at the tender age of five. At age 10 she began traveling extensively throughout the United States singing with four of her siblings as "The Beard Singers", the group later dissolved as one of her siblings left the group to become a member a popular group "The 5th Dimension" Jan relocated to California and sang lead vocals on her first recording with a gospel choir at Sunset Studios, in Hollywood, Ca.

After being whisked off to the Bay Area, she sang back up vocals for the R&B group named "UNEAK",for their debut album"Pink Heat". After years of singing R&B, she began to stretch her musical talents to include other styles of singing. Jazz became her true calling. Jan's inspiration to sing Jazz, came from listening to the works of several Jazz greats such as Sarah Vaughn,Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald and Billy Holiday.

MARLON GREEN:   DRUMMER AND PERCUSSIONIST

You can hang the sunshine in his time……says Jules Broussard about Marlon Green-his drummer of choice.

Native Californian, Marlon Green, became fascinated with the happy, solid rhythms of marching Bands when he was a boy. This fascination prompted Green to put aside his study of the saxophone andConcentrate wholly on playing drums. Lucky for us!

Marlon began his career with his brothers creating “the Green Brothers Band” His career in music spans over  fourty-year period and his expertise covers many genres, including R&B,gospel, rock, blues and jazz. Over the past fourty- years, Marlon Green has contributed his skills and enthusiasm to many major San Francisco Bay Area Bands. In addition to Jules Brossard, Marlon has played and recorded with John Lee Hooker, Zakiya Hooker, Johnny Tolbert, & De Thangs,   Marcia Remas, Rod Sherrell, Marvin Holmes E.C.Scott, Brenda Vaughn and Tremaine Hawkins.

In addition to performing throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, he has toured throughout the United States and internationally, including Canada, Japan, Argentina,Thailand and the Carribean.

Green's special blend of time and taste brings him today into the myriad world of jazz music and jazz layers. Here, he is rapidly gaining the attention and appreciation of players and audiences alike, while he maintains his immaculate perception of time, his positive approach  to the music and his apparent delight in participation.
