Sensitive storytelling, in the opinion of many, is the most significant test of a singer. If that is the case, then a song has found a friend in Robin Grant.

A native Chattanoogan, who has delighted local audiences, is becoming a familiar face on the growing music scene in the south. The soul she brings to each performance calls to mind the great Tin Pan Alley days of the 1920s, 30s, and 40’s but with an edgy delivery and sizzle that can only come from current day. The diversity of her repertoire and talent extends beyond her own original compositions, as well as her rendition of many familiar torch songs.

Robin began her music career at an early age and grew in her performance ability through her experience in the Miss America Scholarship Pageant where her musical talents lead her to earning enough scholarship money to finance both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. In addition, Robin made a name for herself in and among the regional theater community, performing as lead actress in shows featured at The Chattanooga Theater Center, Oak Street Playhouse and in Atlanta community theater venues, which she claims ultimately led her to Jazz. “A great song will transcend genres,” says Robin, “…since so many great songs have emerged from Broadways shows, it made for an easy transition.”

And an easy transition it has been since “crossing over” for the “Great White Way” to le Jazz way. Robin has performed for audiences in such places as the Riverbend Festival, the 2000 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, Chattanooga’s Rhythm and Brews, Southside Jazz Junction, The Walden Club, The Mountain Club, the historic Read House as a featured vocalist for regionally promoted events and at many corporate and private functions.

Using a controlled, but inescapable intensity, Robin’s deliberately phrased singing, supported by equally sensitive and talented musicians, convinces the listeners of both determination and ultimate ability to move any audience.
