Description

Jazz for Prostate Cancer Awareness™ (Jazz4PCA), a 501c3-registered foundation which raises awareness about prostate cancer and promotes the offerings for free or affordable prostate cancer screenings for those in need, will host their 5th Annual Jazz4PCA Holiday Gala at The Rutgers Club in Piscataway, NJ on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 4:00p to 8:00p. The Gala’s featured artist is renowned jazz pianist/composer/arranger Nat Adderley Jr., and his quartet. In addition, Jazz4PCA have received generous contributions from partnering organizations including Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ and Investors Foundation, in efforts to assist in the Gala’s fundraising vision while “raising awareness with jazz”.

The price of admission for this jazz gala fundraiser is $125 per person, which includes a delicious four-course meal, complete with appetizer, salad, main entrée, and dessert.

The Gala’s keynote speaker will be Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ’s own, Dr. Isaac Kim, Chief of Urologic Oncology and Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Program and mentor of the Jazz4PCA’s outreach campaign.

Other brief presentations will include:

RESPOND Study Group -- a nation-wide, $26.5 million funded, study initiative examining African-American men and their more-aggressive forms of prostate cancer, presented by Dr. Antoinette M. Stroup, Director of the New Jersey State Cancer Registry; birthed out of this initiative is Jazz4PCA-own, Fraternity of Heroes®, a growing brotherhood of Prostate Cancer Survivors willing to share their survival testimonials within the community in order to save lives;

ProjectHERO – a research study, presented by Dr. Anita Kinney, PhD, RN, and HERO Principal Investigator, in finding ways to improve clinical care and the healing process of prostate cancer fighters and survivors; these incentives are endorsed by Dr. Isaac Kim, Chief of Urologic Oncology and Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Program at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Proceeds from this Jazz4PCA™ event will continue to benefit a national “free prostate cancer screening” and education campaign where participating cancer entities offer free cancer screenings, particularly, during the month of September (Prostate Cancer Awareness Month).

Jazz4PCA™ was founded in memory of legendary jazz trombonist James “Jimmy” Stowe, who succumbed to prostate cancer at age 61. His brothers, Phillip, Ralph, and Wendell, each have undergone a successful prostatectomy, from the benefits of early cancer screenings.

Born in jazz royalty as the son and nephew of jazz greats trumpeter Nat Adderley and saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Nat Adderley Jr. is perhaps best known for his composer/arranger/production work with Luther Vandross. Nat composed and arranged Luther’s first top 20 pop hit, “Stop to Love”, along with other popular Luther songs, including “Wait for Love”, the Grammy-nominated “Give me the Reason”, and “The Closer I Get To You”, Luther’s duet with Beyonce Knowles which won a Grammy in 2004 for best R&B performance by a duo or group. Nat was Luther’s close friend and his musical director from 1981 until his death. Nat recorded, performed, arranged, and produced successfully with many other artists including Kirk Whalum, Natalie Cole, Johnny Gill, Aretha Franklin, and the Temptations. Moreover, all the piano heard in the Broadway production of August Wilson’s Piano Lesson performed by Nat Adderley Jr.
