Event description
Jazz Vespers at Cafe Museum combines the power of jazz and liturgy to strengthen the soul . Curated by vocalist Chanda Rule

About this event

Traditionally, the Sunday Vesper recaps the week passed and strengthens the soul for the new one. At Café Museum, the Jazz Vesper takes place once at the end of every month. With the power of jazz, it masters the past and create space for the new. Jazz Vespers @ Cafe Museum is curated by Chanda Rule, one of the great voices of current Jazz, who is also rooted in Gospel. Kirk Lightsey called hers the most wonderful voice he has heard in the last decades.

For this evening, Chanda invites various instrumentalists for duo performances that blend ritual, contemplation, Sacred music, spirituals, and jazz in a way that brings us joy.

“Her powerful voice is characterized by superb diction...heartfelt intonation...and often aching beauty.” — Raul D'gama Rose, All About Jazz

Organizer Chanda Rule

Organizer of Jazz Vespers at Cafe Museum

With feet rooted in gospel, a heart filled with soul, and a voice touched with jazz, singer and songwriter Chanda Rule has been weaving stories through song, humming melodies, and bending words since her childhood. Gracefully mesmerizing audiences nationally and internationally, Chanda loves to proclaim that music is a healing balm for the human spirit and uses music to celebrate, and honor the downright sacredness of every being. Featured in Cicily Janus' "The New Face of Jazz" (Billboard Books), Chanda's genre-defying voice has graced a variety of musical projects: from Off-Broadway to leading congregational music on Sunday mornings. Chanda has performed as an opening act for Regina Belle & The Whispers, India.Arie, Angela Bofill, and Amel Larrieux; and as a featured vocalist at venues such as Birdland, Tchaikovsky Hall, St. Peter’s Church, The Apollo, Dizzy’s Coca Cola at Lincoln Center, and the Jazz Standard.
