Sarasota Art Museum invites you to be our guest at Jazz Thursday at SAM!
Mark your calendars for live jazz at Sarasota Art Museum, hosted by the Jazz Club of Sarasota, featuring the Paul Gavin Quartet!
Join us every second Thursday from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm for music and drinks on the Marcy & Michael Klein Plaza, and art in the galleries. Galleries are open until 7:00 pm on Jazz Thursdays.
Sip on refreshing cocktails and enjoy small bites in the Bistro. Each month features a different style of jazz, from straight-ahead to free jazz, bebop to swing, and so much more.
Ambassadors may reserve space for 2 people in the reserved VIP seating area. Space is limited; reservations will be accepted on a first-come/first-served basis.
ABOUT PAUL GAVIN
Paul Gavin is a drummer, teacher, composer and arranger based in Tampa. Since graduating from the University of South Florida in 2015, Paul has made his living exclusively as a freelance musician. He plays a variety of music around the state, teaches privately and in schools and is applauded everywhere for his dynamic style, personality and musicianship. He currently has two bands: The Vanguard, which plays his original music; and Mosaic, which plays the music of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers plus he writes and arranges for The Gulf Coast Jazz Collective and the Lake Wales Jazz Connection. He has also played nationally as a member of the Airmen of Note at the Kennedy Center and received a grant from Young Artists Awards in Ft. Meyers to create his debut album.
ABOUT DR. ZACH BARTHOLOMEW
Dr. Zach Bartholomew, a graduate of Florida State University, is an award-winning jazz pianist, composer and music educator who maintains an active performance career as one of the most sought- after pianists in South Florida. In 2016 and 2017 he was one of the top three finalists at the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition and since then has been featured at various national and international jazz festivals. His original music is inspired by the jazz tradition but also influenced by Afro-Cuban music. He has taught at University of Miami Frost School of Music, Broward College, Miami-Dade College , Tiffin University and Florida Memorial University. He has headlined at top jazz clubs in the country, including Blues Alley, Jazz Showcase and The Jazz Kitchen.
ABOUT JAMES SUGGS
James Suggs, a University of South Florida faculty member since 2019, is an active performer and recording artist both locally and nationally. He is a sizzling trumpet player and has performed at national and international jazz festivals, including Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he lived taught and performed for 8 years. He has been a featured artist on six cruise ships and in cities across the world.
ABOUT BRANDON ROBERTSON
Brandon Robertson is a graduate of Florida State University, with a B.A. and an M.A. in music and a focus on Jazz Studies. He is the Director of Jazz Studies & Director of the Basketball Band at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Meyers. He has performed at notable jazz clubs in New York with the FSU Jazz Sextet and members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He is also an advocate in jazz/music education, presenting clinics, workshops, masterclasses and guest performances in K -12 Schools throughout Florida, Georgia and Texas.
