Jazz @ the People Spot
Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM (CDT)
Get ready to experience Jazz like it's never been before. If you enjoy Jazzin @ the Shedd you will adore Jazz @ the People Spot. Quad Communities Development Corporation and Little Black Pearl Art & Design Center have joined forces and invite you to attend Jazz at the People Spot. Jazz at the People Spot is an impromptu micro-festival to celebrate the launching of the new People Spots hitting the streets of innovative Chicago neighborhoods.
J@P is a unique family-friendly event to expose Chicagoans to art and Jazz music set on the backdrop of Bronzeville’s new “urban park”. The purpose of this free event is to bring Jazz music back to the community that all ages and the entire family can enjoy. The event will feature Jazz and jazz-inspired music being played all day, as well as fun activities for youth and adults, historical tours and more.
SUPER SWEET BONUS: Enjoy a fun sweet-tooth food truck social the day of the event, featuring popular treats, like cupcakes, adult popsicles, delicious pancakes and new orleans style snow balls.
What is a micro-festival? A grassroots event that encourages local foot traffic and attracts visitors without developing a full-scale street festival. It can be impromptu and it’s a brief snapshot of a community and its amenities, but highly program focused allowing for an enriching interactive experience. Examples of a micro-festival include Silver Room Block Party in Wicker Park and Rock the Block Party – DIY Community Block Party in West Town.
This event is partially supported by JPMorgan Chase, Special Service Area #47, a Groupon Grassroots (GG) campaign that is active until September 16th. GG will to help raise funds to support our Jazz artists and to raise funds for future Jazz events in the community. Groupon Grassroots is a donation platform developed by Groupon to help raise money for charitable projects.
