Eight of the brightest bulbs in Boston jazz together on one stage, led by vocalist Lori Zuroff.

About this event

THE BAND

Lori Zuroff (vocalist) has been performing with various rock, blues, R&B, and jazz bands in the Boston area for more than 20. She’s appeared at Chick Singer Night at Johnny D's in Somerville, The Mad Monkfish in Cambridge, and regional venues. Lori leads her own five-piece rock band, The Lola Sweet Band, as well as singing lead and backup in the 15-piece horn-centric band, The Midtown Horns. Lori studied jazz vocals for several years with Boston's own jazz divas, Rebecca Parris and Dominique Eade, and with Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton in New York City. She recently released her premiere jazz CD, “Ladybug.” Lori has co-hosted popular blues jam in Maynard and Acton and performed at local hospitals for “Musicians on Call.”

Zac Casher (percussion) creates personal and commanding grooves in a variety of styles makes him one of the most sought-after drummers in the New England area. Born in Boston, a Berklee College alumnus who has also taught at Berklee, his credits include performing and recording with Julien Kasper, Mighty Sam McClain (Telarc), Scott Shetler and Michelle Willson (Rounder), touring with Imani Coppala (Columbia Records), Ben Swift (Acoustic Arts Prod.) and Johnny Adams (Rounder) and performing with The Ken Clark Organ Trio (Severn Records). Zac produced, performed, and recorded his own original rock project, “Naked Wednesday” (JZM Records).

Bill McCormack (bass) grew up in Ireland and started playing trumpet and bass at an early age. Before moving to the United States, he played with many of Irelands’ top musicians including singers Honor Heffernan and Christine Tobin, Stocktons Wing, and was a member of renowned jazz guitarist Louis Stewarts’ quartet. He continues to hold down the groove on a diverse Boston music scene playing both upright and electric bass with many of the area’s best musicians.

Bruce Bears (keyboard) plays keyboards with two-time Grammy Award-nominee Duke Robillard and the Duke Robillard Band, and can be heard on Duke's Grammy-nominated albums “Guitar Groov-a-rama” and “Stomp! The Blues Tonight,” as well as many of Duke's other albums. He has been touring internationally for 20 years, and formed the original Toni Lynn Washington Band in 1998. Bruce has performed with raw bluesman "Big Jack" Johnson, Blues icon “Little” Milton Campbell, Susan Tedeschi, and Jay Geils, Chicago Bluesman Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson, singer-songwriter Mark Erelli, gospel star Mavis Staples, masterful songwriter and soulful singer Martin Sexton, and many others. His skills as a keyboardist and musician are as diverse as they are in demand.

Freddie Bryant (guitar) received a Master’s degree in classical guitar from the Yale School of Music and is in demand in the New York jazz and Brazilian scenes, where he has worked with Elaine Elias, Tom Harrell and many others. He was a member of Ben Riley’s Monk Legacy Septet and the Mingus Orchestra and leads his own group, Kaleidoscope. His new CD, “Monk Restrung,” celebrates the music of Thelonious Monk. He has toured 55 countries and collaborated with musicians from a variety of backgrounds, including Indian classical, African vocalists, oud players, traditional Arab groups, and Llezmer bands. Bryant is on the faculties of Berklee College of Music and Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen, Holland. He was a recipient of the 2019 CMA New Jazz Works Composition

Mario Perrett (saxophone) moved to Boston from Bethlehem , Pennsylvania in 1983 to attend Berklee College of Music. Hegraduated with honors earning a B.A. in Music Education and has been pursuing a career in music both as an private instructor at UMass Boston and as a freelance performer.

Lydia Fortune (vocalist) has been performing for nearly 50 years. An eclectic and versatile vocalist, her love of music has inspired as openness to exploring several musical genres and approaches. Beginning as a folk singer in the early 1970s, by 1982 she had launched a jazz career by appearing first as a guest vocalist and then lead singer for local jazz. Lydia also performs with collaborator, Phil Nigro, as a member of the singer/songwriting duo Lydia & Phil, Formed in 2010.

Rebecca Cline (keyboard) has lived in Boston for more than 20 years, working as an educator, presenter, and performer specializing in Latin and jazz piano. As the author of Latin Jazz Piano Improvisation: Clave, Comping, and Soloing on Berklee Press, she has led more than 20 workshops on improvising within the context of the clave and on Cuban piano improvisation styles — in the US, Asia, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean — and has taught ensembles, Cuban piano styles, and jazz studies for 18 years at Berklee College of Music.
