The Novotny/Botos recording Look Ahead was released internationally on Triplet Records in 2016. It has now brought these stalwart Canadian jazz musicians and their unique duo-sound to the world. Look Ahead is more than a title, it describes their musical approach, which involves a shared 6th sense of music and sound. This connection propels them toward new compositional and performative destinations. When music-making is this genuine, it can extend to other mediums because it story-tells. Recent acknowledgment of this Novotny/Botos trait comes from Canadian filmmaker Cleo Tellier, who licensed the Novotny/Botos version of Botos’s song Budapest for the closing theme of her movie Mishka. It has received over 17 million YouTube views since April 22, 2018. This reception has further brought attention to Novotny & Botos as film composers because they also co-composed Mishka’s underscore. What’s more, the Look Ahead version of My Favorite Things is currently streaming on Spotify’s instrumental jazz playlist, joining iconic jazz luminaries Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. Enjoy and experience Paul Novotny with Robi Botos in the intimate Gallery 345 concert- space.

Paul Novotny is a Canadian bassist who receives international recognition from his recordings which date back to 1990 with Joe Sealy, (Sealy/Novotny, Double Entendre). He has multiple awards including 2 Juno nominations and has produced Juno winning and Global Music Award winning releases. He also played bass on the platinum selling Cuphead (2018) video game soundtrack which has earned an enormous international following. In 2016 Paul released Look Ahead with Robi Botos, which has now been internationally received on a Spotify Instrumental Jazz playlist. Robi’s recent 2018 recording Old Soul is now also garnering rave reviews. As a film composer, Robi wrote the score for A People Uncounted, documenting the struggles and the rich artistry of the Romani people. Robi has just completed music for Stella Meghie’s feature films, Jean of The Jonses and The Weekend, which Novotny did with him.
