Event description

Description

On day one, the instructor will do a presentation on plein air and begin his first session demo. The Class will begin afterwards. This will repeat on 2nd day. And on day three, the class will have a group critique and finalize paintings. Throughout the workshop the instructor will talk about his approach to painting/painting outdoors, while aiding students on an individual and group basis. There will be individual critiques and most likely a group critique at the end of the workshop. We will be schedule based but flexible, relaxed, and have fun in this learning experience.

Objectives:

  • Gain experience with one of the toughest subjects – outdoor painting!

  • Choosing where to paint & what to think about before settling on a spot to paint

  • How to approach a sustained effort plein air painting and follow through

  • Familiarization with tools, oil paint, and application

Supplies & Materials:

Please use what you have. Below are suggestions.

Paints: use whatever painting medium and colors you are comfortable with or have. You should at least have the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and white in whatever medium you use.

NOTE: Although open to acrylic and other mediums, the preferred medium for this workshop is oil paint. The instructor will be painting in oils. Here are the colors that he will most likely be using: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cad Yellow medium, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Medium, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Viridian Green, Ivory Black.

Brushes: Use the brushes you have. Although soft bristles and sables are fine, the instructor prefers bristle brushes when painting with oil. You can buy a brush set of assorted flats, filberts & rounds. Bring a pallet knife too. Jason has his set listed on Rosemary Brushes website if you are interested.

Supports: Bring a larger sized canvas/panel you are comfortable with. We will be working on one painting for the entire workshop - basically 2 and ½ sessions of painting, so think about what you can get done in that time. So if you’re used to painting 12x16, maybe try 16x20. The instructor will most likely be painting a 16x20. It is recommended to bring several size options so not to limit you. Also, if some of you want to do a study/studies, bring materials for that as well.

Other: rags/paper towels, easel (instructor uses a Soltek), pallet, gamsol (turps) trash bag (grocery bag), maybe a stool/chair, sunscreen, bug spray and bottled water and whatever else you believe you may want or need.

Refunds: Refunds, minus the Eventbrite fee can be made within a month of registering, but not a month before and up to the workshop. We often fly these instructors in.
