Description

Japanese Water-based Woodcut Printmaking Workshop (Mokuhanga)

A two day workshop with Lucy May Schofield, VARC's artist in residence.

Sat 5th August 11 am - 6 pm and Sun 6th August 11 am - 6 pm.

£7 to cover the cost of all materials, tea and coffee. Please bring a packed lunch and an idea for a very simple image.

Please note that spaces are limited and you need to be able to commit to both days. See below for more information about the workshop and the process.

Mokuhanga is perfect for anyone interested in a non-toxic, table-top printmaking technique. Over the course of the weekend you will learn the skills to transfer and carve colour-separation wood blocks, in the long tradition of Japanese Ukiyo-e printmaking. With no press required, only a hand held barren, you will learn techniques to achieve various print effects, while registering your multi-block image through the simple 'kento' registration system. This is an opportunity to explore printmaking you can do at home while falling in love with both the process and results of this accessible, water-based printmaking method which provides endless possibilities.
