Join us for a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Chado, or the Way of Tea, is one of the most ancient and revered arts of Japan. During the ceremony you will be served a bowl of matcha tea and a Japanese sweet. Reservations are required. You will be asked to remove your shoes (or use shoe covers) when you enter, and to wear white socks (we have some to lend you if you forget). We also ask that legs be covered as is traditional in Japan. You will be kneeling or sitting on the tatami mats, but if that is a problem we can easily pull a chair up to the tea room for you, and you still still be at the same height as the other participants.
This tea ceremony will be held during Japan House Gallery Days in which you can observe displays of items in the Japan House collection including kimonos, tea ceremony equipment, scrolls and more! We will be open to the public (free unless you make a reservation for tea ceremony) from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm from Wedensday, May 10, 2017 through Sunday, May 14, 2017.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There are metered parking spaces in the lot to the north of us (at St. Mary's Road and Lincoln) and to the south of us (on Lincoln across from the Vet Med complex). On weekends the south lot is free.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes, if space allows, you may transfer your registration to a different event.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You do not have to bring your ticket. We will just need your name.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
The purchaser of the ticket can go to "My Tickets" and change the name to whomever will be attending.
What if I want to purchase more than 10 tickets or schedule a special group?
We are happy to work with you to schedule a group. Just call us at (217) 244-9934. We can also talk about scheduling a tea ceremony at a special time for you, depending on availability.
What is the refund policy?
You registration is refundable if you contact us (217-244-9934) 2 days before the date of your reservation.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
The tea ceremony is for all ages. Children are welcome as long as they are able to sit quietly throughout the ceremony. Admission is required for all regardless of whether they partake in the tea and sweet.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Contact us with any questions at (217) 244-9934 or firstname.lastname@example.org
