Description

Course Overview:

* TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED
* HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM GDPR COMPLIANT?
* HOW CAN I MANAGE THIS ON A SMALL BUDGET?
* HOW DO I RESPOND TO A SUBJECT ACCESS REQUEST?
* HOW DO I NOT BECOME THE NEXT CYBER-CRIME VICTIM?
* IT'S NOT HYPE - IT'S THE LAW!

In this interactive 1-day workshop we explore the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Why the GDPR is not a tick box exercise, why it is crucial to be compliant and remain compliant, why personal data may be the new ‘gold’, what impact a breach will have on you and your company, the role of the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) and what are those cyber criminals up to now?

After months of planning, budgeting and restructuring ahead of the GDPR, you may be wondering what all the fuss was about. The 25th May was the start of a long journey to improve how organisations manage personal data. And it’s here to stay – regardless of Brexit.

Over the last 3 months the ICO has seen an increase in the number of breach notifications. However, many organisations are still struggling to implement a successful compliance program. While companies may think they are on the right track, many are inadvertently making mistakes due to widespread misconceptions, and many more are failing to seize the opportunities.

Your Trainers, Helen and Tracey will investigate:

THE GOOD: What are the opportunities that the GDPR presents for your business, how can you maximise them without being buried in paperwork? How can you keep the costs of compliance low? Why should GDPR compliance be crucial to your business?

THE BAD: GDPR represents a new overhead to all organisations, but how do you keep this overhead to a minimum and continue to run your business? What impact will it have on you and your company if you are not compliant? Whilst you may be good at managing data, how can you assess and understand the calibre of organisations that you share information with?

THE UGLY: We’ve worked with many organisations who have experienced the more difficult aspects of the GDPR – Subject Access Requests, Rights to be Erased and breach reporting. We will take you through how to respond in a timely manner, when you are entitled to additional time and the potential to charge. We will also explain how to ensure that you do not become next cyber victim and, as not all breaches are caused by individuals outside of the business, what can you do to protect your information from being stolen by an employee.

In using real examples, by the end of the day you will fully realise why being cyber aware and GDPR compliant is key. If you need help with HOW to make sure you are GDPR compliant, what affect it could have if you are not meeting regulation and how not to become the next cyber victim, this full-day training is ideal for you. This course is especially suitable for small businesses and sole proprietors.

Course Objectives:

We will work through your business on the day so that you leave with a specific action plan for you to implement straight away!

During the workshop, with help from the Trainers, you will:-

  • Consider the cyber threat – fact or fiction? Those cyber criminals are not ‘precious’ on who they target. How do you protect yourself from not being the next victim?
  • Understand why everyone needs to comply with GDPR and the financial impacts of not being compliant.
  • Understand the value of the data that you hold.
  • Identify what data you have, where it is, how long you are keeping it for and why you have it.
  • Undertake a GDPR assessment of your organisation – is it compliant? If not what actions you need to take.
  • Complete a Subject Access Request exercise – what steps should you take?
  • Role play a data breach scenario
  • Understand the role that your employees and suppliers play in maintaining compliance, and the steps that you can take to strengthen their role.
  • Complete a supplier assessment
  • Leave with a toolkit that you can use as soon as you get back to your work-place.
