Dear Gold Coast Chapter ITE Members and Affiliates:

Happy New Year!!!

Our first lunch meeting of the year is scheduled for Friday, January 26, 2018. We are happy to have Mr. Shi-Chiang Li, Systems Planning Manager, FDOT District 4 to present on the topic “The Arrival of Autonomous Vehicles and its implication on Transportation Planning”. The presentation will cover the status of AV advancement and its implications on travel behavior changes, traffic operation and transit.

We would also like to introduce our new Board Member, Shriram Ramaratnam, who will be the Chapter Secretary for the next two years. We will also have the awarding ceremony for the 2017 Book Scholarship.

Presentation Summary:

The presentation will cover the status of AV advancement and its implications on travel behavior changes, traffic operation and transit. The presentation will also discuss on FDOT D4's efforts to address the arrival of AV in long range transportation planning.

About the Speaker - Mr. Shi-Chiang Li:

Mr. Shi-Chiang Li is currently the Systems Planning Manager at FDOT District 4. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management in Taiwan in 1976, a Master of Science degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York in 1979, and a M.S. degree in Computer Science in 1984 from the same institute. He also studied in U.C. Davis with Dr. Luigi Kitamura, the guru of Activity-Based Modeling, in 1982.

In early 80’s, Mr. Li worked in Indonesia and Taiwan on tollroad planning projects on demand forecasts, bond amortization, and interchange and toll plaza geometric conceptual design. He later jointed Fredric .R. Harris, Inc. (which is part of today’s AECOM) Ft. Lauderdale Office in 1986 for the “I-95 Reconstruction” project, which widened I-95 in Broward County from 6-lane to the current form.

In January, 1990, Mr. Li joined FDOT. Since then, he has reviewed traffic Impacts, design traffic, IARs, toll revenue forecast, and other studies, and managed a number of model development, long range transportation plan, and travel characteristics survey projects. In 1991, he initiated the founding of SE Florida FSUTMS Users Group with other modelers then. He served as the Tri-Chair of Florida Model Task Force for more than 10 years. Since 1998, he has been supervising the Systems Planning Group and its expanded Systems and Policy Planning Group of the District IV PL&EM Office.
