Description

Join members of the Creighton community in partnership with Lutheran Family Services to learn and hear stories about life in Omaha as a refugee.

Volunteer Roles:
Each week will vary on moving furniture from LFS warehouse for refugee family's apartment to dropping off mail to refugee families and hearing their story. Volunteers interested to learning about the refugee process and hearing stories of what is happening in Omaha. We need a variety of volunteers who are interested in moving beds and dressers but also volunteers who can make the apartment home a future “home” by cleaning and setting up living, bathroom, kitchen areas. If you have ever moved to a new place you know what this may take: a little cleaning, vision, and some elbow grease.

Shopping as a group on behalf of Lutheran Family Services, you might visit traditional grocery stores as well as locally owned ethnic grocery stores.

Leadership Onsite:
Two Creighton students will direct the volunteer group by dividing tasks to maximize efficiency.

Reflection:
Each week will conclude with an Ignatian Reflection before returning to Creighton's campus.

Come once or come each week.
Please register for each Friday you wish to attend.
No need to bring money, just dress modestly, be ready to clean and be able to move comfortably.
