Event description

Description

Join Jane's Walk Peterborough on Saturday, May, 5, at 10 am for an exploration of the public realm along the city's waterfront. The public realm is defined as the publicly owned places and spaces that belong to and are accessible by everyone. The walk will take about 2 hours, beginning at the Quaker Oats Memorial in Millennium Park and travelling south to Crescent Street. In addition to typical Jane's Walk topics, we will highlight how public art can pay hommage to specific events or causes.

May 5th is also Doors Open Peterborough, and this year's theme is Peterborough Works: Industry Past and Present. Our walk will include stops at artwork that is meaningful to Peterborough's labour movement, including the Quaker Oats Memorial and Peterborough District Labour Council sculpture in Millenium Park, and the Firefighter Memorial in Del Crary Park. We encourage you to visit the Doors Open sites or historical walks taking place on the same day.

Walks are free, no ticket is required but RSVP-ing will help give walk leaders get a sense of the numbers to expect.

Remember to log your trip with Shifting Gears if you take transit, bike, or walk to the meeting point. There is also plenty of parking on the street, at the municipal lot on Simcoe, and under the Peterborough Square.
