Event description

Description

Join Jane's Walk Peterborough on Saturday, May, 5, at 2pm to explore how city design influences heritage preservation and community interaction. Meet us at the Jackson Park parking lot at Parkhill and Monaghan at 2pm.

Stops on this walk will include Jackson Park, Hamilton Park, Bonaccord Community Garden, the Woollen Mills, the skateboard park and a tour of The Mount. Along the way we will discuss the importance of outdoor spaces - for conservation of natural heritage as well as human health and well-being - as well as mixed use and higher density communities, and the benefits of renewing existing buildings rather than tearing them down to build new.

May 5th is also Doors Open Peterborough, and this year's theme is Peterborough Works: Industry Past and Present. To tie in with the theme this walk will discuss the historical significance of the 1937 strike that took place at the Bonnerworth Mills. We encourage you to visit the Doors Open sites or historical walks they are organizing on the same day.

Walks are free, no ticket is required but RSVP-ing will help give walk leaders get a sense of the numbers to expect.

Remember to log your trip with Shifting Gears if you take transit, bike, carpool or walk to the meeting point.
