The Paramis are offered as tools to live mindfully and connected to ourselves, our communities, and our world. Strengthening these heart qualities supports us to live the dharma more fully. Through sitting meditation, dharma talks, interactive exercises, and Tai Chi movements, we will explore and deepen our understanding and embody these life sustaining qualities.
Shahara Godfrey, Ph.D., has trained in the Theravada Buddhist tradition for over 20 years. Other influences have been spiritual teachers from various cultures and traditions as well as the creative arts. She is a graduate of the Community Dharma Leaders and Path of Engagement programs at Spirit Rock.
Jenn Biehn has been teaching Tai Chi Chih (TCC) – Joy through Movement for over 25 years. TCC consists of 20 easy-to-learn accessible movements that emphasize a soft continuity of motion and can be practiced in silence or with guided visualizations. She has taught TCC to those healing from trauma in various community based organizations and to staff and faculty at City College of SF. At three month meditation retreat in 2013, Jenn adapted the movements to embody the Ten Paramis as well as the Brahma Viharas and has been delighted to share these embodied practices at EBMC day longs.
The East Bay Meditation Center operates using a generosity-based, gift economics model. This means we charge no set registration fees to attend our events and instead rely on the generous giving of our community. All classes at the Center do come with a financial cost. Class participants are offered an opportunity to make a voluntary gift to EBMC during the registration process or at an event itself.
Please note that no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If you would like to explore any EBMC volunteer positions, please send an email expressing your interest to email@example.com
EBMC TEACHERS ARE NOT PAID BY THE CENTER and and you can offer a voluntary financial gift to them at the class.
In order to protect the health of community members with environmental illness, please do not wear fragranced products (including natural fragrances) or clothes laundered in fragranced products to EBMC.
