About this event

Jamaica's Independence Celebration and Scholarship Awards Gala image

The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JONJ) invites all to celebrate with us at this signature event. As we celebrate our rich cultural heritage and influence across the globe, we are excited about our major milestone. As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of independence for our beloved homeland, we renew our commitment, in collaboration with the National theme: Re-igniting a Nation for Greatness, JONJ has extended our commitment through our theme: "Success through Synergy".

We are excited that Her Excellency Audrey Marks, our thirteenth Ambassador to the United States of America and the Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the Organization of American States (OAS) will be joining us for this event. Ambassador Marks assumed duties at the Embassy in Washington, D.C. on September 12, 2016. Prior to assuming her Ambassadorial role, Ambassador Marks, an entrepreneur by profession, started and operated six previous businesses. She is perhaps best known for having founded Paymaster (Jamaica) Limited, an on-line paymaster system which she conceptualized and started in 1997. Ambassador Marks is the recipient of numerous citations and recognition from her peers and various organizations for her pioneering work, entrepreneurial endeavors and commitment to social causes.

JONJ is looking forward to an amazing evening as we kick off our New Jersey celebration of the 60th Independence anniversary and hope that you will join us for this event along with other festivities. Come prepared for an evening of fun, to connect with friends and to dance the night away to great music. And, please have some cash on hand to participate in our 50/50 raffle; you must be in it to win it.

All proceeds from this event go directly to benefit the missions of JONJ in Jamaica, the US and to support the Union County Chapter Scholarship fund!

The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J), a 501(C) 3 nonprofit organization with dual purpose of building and strengthening ties among people of Jamaican heritage in communities across New Jersey and to serve as a resource to give back to our homeland. JONJ is comprised of six chapters across the state.
