Description

Oldham Library and Oldham Comic Con present the World Premiere of Jack Kirby : A Personal Journey, a film by Glenn B Fleming.

2017 is the centennial of the birth of comic book artist and writer Jack Kirby.

Kirby created (or co-created) most of the iconic characters we continue to see
in comics and on film today:
Captain America, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, Nick
Fury, X-Men, Galactus, the Silver Surfer, the Black Panther, the Mighty Thor,
New Gods, Mister Miracle, Doctor Doom and many, many more.

In 1991, during his second trip to the Kirby home, Fleming was able to record
part of the afternoon with the King of Comics. Jack was open and warm, entirely
at ease with the presence of a camera as he talked about comics, his life and
service in the Second World War.

This unique film serves as an historical document, showing
Jack Kirby in his own home, in his own studio, talking about his own life, in
his own words.

After the screening, there will be a Q & A session with a panel
of invited guests: Glenn B Fleming (Artist, author and publisher of
Crikey! The Great British Comics Magazine), Tim Perkins (Artist at Wizard’s
Keep), Stephen Hooker (Editor at Multi-Verse Magazine) , Nickolas Brockenshire & Joshua Mahoney (Creator of The Jack Kirby Society Of
Northwest Arkansas).

Copies of the film will be on sale at the event at the special price of £8.

Light refreshments provided.
